One of the best and the most useable soft synths accessible in Logic Pro & Express is the ES2. It truly is an extremely adaptive synth and features a wonderful sound. One thing which has always bugged me is that once you open up the synth, the default patch is of very little use and has crazy amounts going on, all of which is of very little use. Precisely what I am going to show you how to do, is build a new defaulting init patch and make it load every time you load an ES2.

The default patch for the ES2 contains nine instances of modulation which for virtually any default ‘base’ patch is far too much not to mention the diverse envelope settings.

The first thing we need to do to tidy up this specific patch is set all of the sources inside the modulation matrix to ‘LFO1' (Except the 1st, leave this as Env2) and then we will set all of the targets in the modulation matrix to ‘Off’(once again besides the very first, that we will set to Cutoff 1 2, we can then check the b/p option so we can simply turn this much used setting off and on effortlessly). To the right of the tenth router setting, alter the Vector Mode to ‘XY’ - this will cease the triangular mixer settings from being affected by the XY mixer.

Following that we want to change the Volume to 0dB, Sine Level to 0, FX Intensity to 0, Analog to zero, Unison to off and all oscillator cents to 0. We will switch off Oscillator’s 2 & 3 and set the Triangle mixer to 100% Oscillator 1.

As you have seen through the variety of controls we've already altered, the default patch previously had significantly too much occurring with it and by now the patch will be sounding a good deal tidier. We've just a couple more settings to tweak. I like to put the filter to series then move the mix to midway and open up just the LPF cutoff without resonance on either filter.

All that is left to do is tidy up the three Envelopes. I like to set up all to 0 besides Env 2 Decay to maximum, Env 3 Sustain to maximum, and Env’s 2 & 3 Vel to 50%

Now we have a fresh, simple saw wave base patch.

The only thing that is left to complete is save the patch. Therefore we need to go to ‘Save As…’ and save the patch as ‘#default’ in the default preset location. Now each and every time we load up an ES2 you'll have a much better canvas to use and won’t have plenty of things to change or even de-activate.
